I've been thinking about how I've role played on forums in the past, and how the logic behind setups and the setting and the pe-story to a game affect the game. Although more recently I've been solely lost, empty of inspiration to try and hold a single world concept together, with a pre-meditated plot to dance around.
I call this role play an experiment because I will try my best to just let it roll with little more than basic instruction. No prior awesome histories of the world, no megalomaniacs vying for world domination from the get go. Just a pure story build directly out of the characters and a basic world setting.
So, to start;
This game takes place in a shining city, it's metal and stone always polished to perfection. It's not too much of a hindrance to sight as one may think. Little is known of the outside world to those in the city. In fact, the city seems almost clean of color, as if it were a blank slate. Billboards and signs, other than the most basic of traffic signs and signals, all seem to miss any sort of sign of importance. It is truly a World Without Logos.
You, as a character, just remember 'being' there. You remember a life filled with various experiences leading you to where you are- but NOTHING SPECIFIC. The vagueness of your past can either be a curiosity to you or you can just accept it. ALL CHARACTERS HAVE ONE ITEM CALLED A MEMENTO. This is an item that the characters has a fondness of, that either represents him/her or his/her past.
Regardless of your outlook, you live in a place that shifts between day and night. The shining city during the day turns into a thriving night-populace, with an assortment of technological and human distractions. With the day one finds safety in the light- but at nightfall you must be brave, or stupid to wander the streets alone.
Regardless of your vague notions of your history, you know that most of the fairer citizenry come out during the day, and the opposite at night. Whether or not you feel more attuned with either side is a question of your own choices. You will discover that Magic and powers of various sorts lie hidden everywhere, even within yourself.
Now it is time for you to live your life, not knowing of the world outside the waters surrounding the city, where only a single bridge seems to roll into the belly of the beyond. Take hold of your dreams, however you realize them, paint the city with the colors of your potential, and survive the way you feel is most efficient.
Summary:
Tech: Modern/Steampunk mixture. Cellphones exist as the only means of telecommunication, with a 'network' that serves as a city portal. It is simply called 'The Net' and has no logo, just like every thing else.
Magic and Powers: Magic, Psychic Abilities, and items thereof exist, and can be developed. Magic and such done in daylight hours is rare, opposite is true at night- as it is a somewhat uncommon thing for the masses.
Character Types/Races: Almost anything- that is not in the realms of God Modding. Just remember that the more monstrous choices tend to frequent the night, but it's not TOO uncommon to see an elf or a faerie in business suits during the day.
Character Sheet:
Name:
Age: (Any age, as long as you feel it has definite roleplaying value)
Gender:
Race: (Human Vampire? Elven Werewolf? Half Dragon-Half Dwarf? Just HUMAN MAYBE!?)
Appearance: (Pictures or descriptions work)
Memento: (All Mementos seem to have an extraordinary trait/ability, that only their owners can utilize as far as any one knows, it's an item the characters wake up with and are fond of. )
Vague History: (Though it annoys me to see 5 year olds with the ability to kill masses upon masses of enemies with swords, if you REALLY THINK YOU HAVE A GOOD IDEA BEHIND IT.... Oh god, go for it)
Basic Traits/Personality: (This is an experiment with the growth of characters and roleplaying them. If you'd like to note some traits here for reference, have at it.)
Magical Power Forecast: (Whatever sort abilities you think your characters has or will have eventually should go here. This can be subject to change.)

Later:
My Character: (Use as an example)
Name: Rigaldo
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Race: Part Human, Part something... Fiery?
Appearance:
Memento:
The Scarlet Lion: A crimson necklace shaped into an emblazoned lion, which seems to burn with a fiery mane. Though fierce when fashioned about Rigaldo's chest, it has the uncanny ability to become a stunning longsword-hilt made with a similar red metal. Upon Rigaldo's will a blade of red energy emanates forth, creating a fire-blade. This blade is basically an old-fashioned light saber fueled by his will.
Vague History:
Rigaldo remembers a few vague notions; First, his youth was like a TRAGIC PLAY, he can remember DEEP SADNESS AND LOSS. A very HAUNTING EVENT chills his bones even these days, whatever these days are. He also remembers a SWEET AND CARING SONG HUMMED BY A LOVING VOICE, the voice tends to coalesce whenever he finds himself in a lonely place, with similar feelings.
Rigaldo also remembers LIVING A HARSH LIFE, feeling as if that time was filled with obstacles where he could take nothing for granted. Another thing he recalls is REACHING SOME TYPE OF INNER GOAL, as if e achieved something scholarly, something praiseworthy- even beyond all the odds.
And finally, the last large figment of memory he has involves CONSTANT PHYSICAL PAIN, as well as a GREAT EMOTIONAL LOSS.
Basic Traits/Personality: Brave, reckless, sharp witted with a similar sense of justice. He has skills with his fists and swords, and the scars on his knuckles tell a story he can't remember.
Magical Power Forecast:
Now:
Memento
Inhuman Stamina
Later:
Kii-Based Pyrokinesis/firebending,
Heightened senses,
Heightened Abilities (Strength, agility etc),
and eventually... "Wings" for flight. >D)
